COVID has made window intercoms essential

Window intercom systems have traditionally been used wherever windows separate staff and customers in places such as ticket counters, payment counters, transportation, post office windows, and government buildings.

But with the advent of COVID, face masks and screens are in almost every setting where transactions takes place.  They offer safety for staff but present a communication barrier for the many customers they serve.

New settings

The pandemic has sparked an interest in our window intercoms systems, also know as speech transfer systems.  Our network of distributors and dealers are now completing installations in a broad range of new settings.

Reception areas are an obvious location but we are seeing new venues adapting to the technology such as casinos, pharmacies, health care settings, retail, retirement facilities and higher education.

With students returning to school, staff and administrators are showing interest in the Window Intercom Systems.  Communication through staff’s safety barriers have become essential to performing day to day operations.

Museums and galleries now need window intercom systems at their ticket desks which are screened for staff safety.

Far from needing to enhance speech at check-in desks, airports are looking at other areas of the terminal where interaction with passengers takes place.  Border control, information points and baggage security checks are all new locations where window intercom systems are now needed where they weren’t before.

A focus on care

The retirement and long term care sector, in particular, has embraced intercoms as a way of helping residents and families to communicate in partitioned, COVID-safe rooms.

With efforts growing to maintain contact with families because of the positive impact on residents’ wellbeing, more and more settings are creating spaces where meetings can take place.

Clear communication is key for an age group where hearing loss is more prevalent.  And for those who have dementia, being able to converse reduces possible confusion new COVID rules will likely cause.

More than just ‘static’ solutions

Customer interaction doesn’t just take place in bricks and mortar buildings.  We are seeing demand for solutions from taxi drivers who have  put protective partitions in their vehicles.  Our STS-K070 kit was a perfect fit for this application.

New solutions for new settings

Demand from new settings had the designers at Contacta creating new models of the Window Intercom Systems.  We have developed a new entry level range of systems that are budget friendly.  However, all of our models have the same essential elements:

  • High-quality performance
  • Hands-free use to minimize the chance of infection
  • Robust housing that is easy to sanitize
  • Open Duplex technology for two parties to speak at the same time

As you’d expect from Contacta, every Window Intercom System can also be fitted with a hearing loop so those with hearing loss can receive crystal clear sound via their hearing device.

We have a solution for every conceivable setting and our engineers are always ready to offer a tailored solution.

Ready to adapt for the future

Contacta is used to responding to changes in the market.  The intercom systems we offered in the 1970s, largely to the banking industry, are very different to what businesses need now!
